Chapter 9:: God is our Savior, Example, & Bridegroom

Hey Girls! You're doing such a fabulous job of sticking with us! Can you believe we are OVER halfway through this book? Crazy! I hope that you've been as challenged by this book as I have been!

Wendy does an awesome job of dissecting these three characteristics of God. I'm not going to reiterate her explanations, but am going to trust that you've read the chapter. As you saw from Kendra's previous post, we'd like to continue to encourage you to highlight, star, underline, etc-- whatever helps you learn best!

More than anything Wendy, Kendra, or I say, we want the Bible to guide your study of God. Sometimes when I read a book, I have a tendency to think more about what the person has to say than what they are trying to direct me towards in the Bible. Today, I'd love for you to focus your time on the verses Wendy mentions about Jesus. When I get "a list of verses to look up" I tend to either skip over it, or do it quickly just to check it off my list. I'd like to encourage you to see this as a very rich, worshipful time that causes you to know and fall more in love with Jesus! How blessed are we to get to have the word of God in so many forms (hard copies, internet, phone apps, etc)?

  1. Sarah Vint, "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!" Eph. 2:4-5

  2. Ah! I'm pretty sure the section entitled 'Kenosis' is my favorite part of this whole book. So simple, yet SO rich & convicting! With Jesus as my example, I have a lot of emptying of myself to do...
"Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:3-8, ESV
Feel free to ask me about it after break ;)

  3. "Therefore, brother, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water." Hebrews 10: 19-20, 22
